This week, bindass’ most recent show talks about dowry and how people are still blinded by this superfluous custom
In the upcoming episode of bindass’ new show Change Aayega, Hum Laayenge, the show addresses one of the oldest issues which exist in our society – DOWRY. The show will put some light on how families end up putting everything at stake in order to fulfill the unrealistic demands of their daughter’s to-be-in laws. Through a clever satire and a real time social experiment, the show will bring to the fore the reaction of the youth to this matter.
The satire begins with Laxmi and her parents preparing to welcome the groom and his family who come to visit their future daughter-in-law. The groom’s family is dressed up in corporate attire with sunglasses and claims to consider their son’s marriage as a family business. They not only have a power point presentation ready with all the statistics of the earnings they make from marriages, but also offer a warranty period of not burning Laxmi for the next five years for a lump-sum amount. Since bride’s family is bounded by societal norms, they helplessly accept the offer. To escape the clutches of the wicked family, Laxmi along with her sister makes a plan. On the day of the marriage, they send a mannequin wrapped with money as the bride, but the greedy in-laws fail to recognize that it is a dummy and not the actual bride.
In the concluding part of the episode, the show conducts a social experiment in a coffee shop, where two families meet to discuss the marriage agreement. The groom’s father gets furious when he learns that the girl’s family is offering only Rs. 5lacs as dowry. The girl starts crying out loud. The crux of the experiment is to see whether the other patrons of the coffee shop offer to lend their support and pacify the girl or do not care to intervene.
