Movie Review Mr Joe B Carvalho
Rating: 2.5 Stars
Director: Samir Tiwari
MR JOE B. CARVALHO Is Routine Comedy : Arshad Warsi gives an earnest performance, Soha Ali Khan is likeable, Jaaved Jaafery surprises, dialogues have required punch
Minuses: amateur direction, poor screenplay in 2nd half, boring songs
Detailed Analysis: Arshad Warsi is one actor who has uncanny capability of surprising the audience, be it circuit orJolly! This time he is back as a goofed up detective. Lets see how this pan out!
To start with, film has similarities with 'Pink Panther' or more like Indian version Sanjay Dutt starrer 'Chatur Singh Two Stars'. Arshad plays title role of not so smart detective and has a girlfriend Shantipriya (Soha Ali) who is a Dabangg style cop! And there is a famous contract killer Carlos (Jaaved Jaafery) who can be seen in 7-8 get ups throughout the film. Then few routinecharacters played by Vijay Raaj, Ranjeet and Shakti Kapoor. How detective solves the case purely on the basis of coincidence forms the crux of the story.
Film has decent enough plot but screenplay falters especially in 2nd half. Too much stretched jokes, unnecessary side characters and uninspired performances hurt the film. Editing is strictly average but dialogues are funny. Performance wise Arshad again proves his mettle with honest act. Soha Ali Khan looks good on screen and Jaaved Jaaffery presents an interesting act. But Mnaoj Joshi, Vijay Raaj, Ranjeet and Shakti Kapoor sleepwalk. Himani Shivpuri tests patience and Kunal Khemu appears for half a second. Babul Supriyo also makes a brief appearance as contract killer.
Direction is good at places but overall it fails to keep things glued and crisp. Film offers some good funny moments and on the face mocking of other films do evoke laughter. Film can work as lazy laughter solution but only if one goes with zilch expectations.
Filmwill release around 1000 screens tomorrow and few more Hollywood films along with 'Sholay 3D' will present stiff competition.
Go for this one if you don't mind simplistic old school comedy!
