Movie Review Zindagi Jalebi
Cast: Avinash Bhargava, Samarth Chaturvedi, Suresh Dubey, Urvashi Solanki, Leena
Director: Karan Kashyap
This film writen and directed by Karan Kashyap certainly has it’s heart in the right place – set in a nondescript village that goes by the name Kakrapur, somewhere in middle India- but the treatment and execution are quite unremarkable.
The narrative tries hard to put forward it’s theme of an idle mind being a devil’s workshop- but it’s just not convincing. Pritam( Avinash Bhargava) is basically a witless layabout who finds it dificult to hold on to a job. His wife Pyaari(Leena) is quite fed up with him. So are his parents. After hearing another tirade about his worthlessness, from his incensed father, Pritam decides to end his life. Enroute he meets up with Rakku Bhaiyya(Samarth Chaturvedi) who is quite gratified at finding a suitable candidate to ‘proclaim’ his political ideals.
It’s not in the least bit funny though. The writing is undistinguished, the characterisations lack wit. Even the ‘item’ song looks and sounds amateurish. There are no smile worthy moments in the tedium inducing run of play either. The earnest performances notwithstanding, this one just doesn’t have enough ammunition to rise to the occasion. Avod by all means!
