Son of Sardar (Movie Review)
Critics Rating - * *
Cast - Ajay Devgan, Sonakshi Sinha, Sanjay Dutt.
Director - Ashwin Dhir
Produced by - Ajay Devgan Films.
What it is - The film gives you the feeling that Jokes on Sardar are more comic than watching Son Of Sardar (SOS). The trailer of the film promised to be an Action Comedy film but SOS neither fits into Comedy genre nor into hard core Action. The over dose of fighting in the film looks like a "Kusti Ka Akhaada". Some forceful funny scenes and non-sense action takes full care that your spending should be ruined properly. Well there are some funny scenes but that doesn't make a multi-starrer and big budget film a worth watch.
Story - Jaswinder Singh Randhawa aka Jassi, (Ajay Devgan) an NRI comes back to his hometown (Punjab) from London to sell the land that his late father left for him. But Jassi gets trapped by Balwinder Singh Sandhu aka Ballu (Sanjay Dutt) who wants to kill Jassi as to take the revenge of his real uncle's death who killed by Jassi's father. Meanwhile Jassi falls for Sukhwinder aka Sukh (Sonakshi Sinha) who is Ballu's niece.
Both Randhwa and Sadhu's families were strong enemies of each other. Jassi's father was also killed by Ballu's family members but Jassi's mother keeps him away from this revenge war. But Ballu waits 25 years to kill Jassi to complete the revenge war, he takes swear to not get marry with his love (Juhi Chawla) until he completes his revenge.
Rest of the story is a typical happy ending of how Ballu forgives his revenge and finally Jassi and Sukh gets together.
Music - There are some unnecessary songs in the film, 'Bichhdan', Rani Tu Me Raja' are quite good. Except Bichhadan, all the other songs sounds more or less similar.
Star Performance - Ajay Devgan and Sanjay Dutt are as usual best at what they have done but Sonakshi Sinha again looked like a show piece in an 'A' listed Hero's films. She has no scope in the film, neither her character has any different shade. She is again the same since Dabangg, Rawady Rathore and Joker. It was good watching Juhi Chawla after a long. She was pretty.
Final Verdict - The main loophole of the film is its screenplay. If the director would have focused more on comedy than giving over dose of fighting, film could have been one more best film to Ajay's credit. Director Ashwin Dhir fails to create any 'Wow' moment in the film as per the expectation from a film belongs to Punjabi background and especially of 'Sardars'. You waits for laugh and ends up with disappointment. Except few ''Hahaha" scenes, film don't entertain you much.
Watch it or Not - Well, as its a Diwali eve, you can give it a shot but only if you are Ajay and Sanju Baba's fan and also an action lover. But if you are expecting a laughter ride, you better get a Santa - Banta jokes book than buying a ticket for Son of Sardar.
