There is a wide spread prevalence of Anemia in India. Almost 80% of Indian population is anemic, i.e. has low haemoglobin level due to iron deficiency. Let’s Be Well Redis a social initiative started by Ms.RajviMehta two years back, who herself was a ‘thalassemia minor’ then. The three months campaign kick-started today. Bollywood actress, RakulPreetsingh, who personally supports the cause, was present at the press conference, held at theBright Start FellowshipInternational School, today.
Let’s Be Well Redaims at identifying prospective anemic women and helping them to overcome the problem by consuming an in-house manufactured iron rich bar called, GudNess. Speaking to the Media, Rakul, said “I think, it is a great initiative by college students. Large percentage of women neglects health in India. GudNess is a very easy way to overcome anemia.I am happy to be associated with the campaign and would love to take it further”.
A scientific research will be conducted by 10 medical students from Duke University, who are in city for one week, from 30th March to 4th April. They will initiate the project which will then continue for 3 months.13 students from the Bright Start Fellowship International School will be acting as medical scouts for this drive.The project involves daily consumption of iron bars called GudNess Bar, by women between the 18 to 35 years for 3 months and their blood will be tested at 0, 30, 60, and 90 days. Everything will be done free of charge.
The Research has IRB approval from ethics committee of India and in USA from Duke University. Blood test will be done by Metropolis Laboratory, Chembur branch which has international accreditation.
The consent will be taken from the individual participating in the study (10 minutes) and then blood test (just a prick with disposable syringe needle with aseptic precautions and one cc blood) will take about 30 seconds per person. This will be followed by eating the energy rich bar.
