The first edition of the much awaited Powai Fest organised by the Rotary Club of Bombay Powai in association with the Hirananadani Group, opened with an array of exciting events and activities, drawing crowds and creating buzz in the very dynamic community. Created with a vision of celebrating life and serving communities, the Powai Fest began with a Cultural Parade with school children from NGOs performing cultural acts, the opening of the Sports segments for school and corporate competitions and a high profile wine tasting event and dinner among many others.
The sports competitions which conclude on Sunday, 12thJanuary, were organised by premier sports management firm Square Off. At the inaugural ceremonyMr. Surendra Hirananadani, MD and Founder of the Hiranandani Group cut a ribbon and the opened the sport alongside former India’s no1 in Table Tennis and current national coach Kamlesh Mehta, Mr. Vivek Govilkar, President of the Rotary Club of Bombay Powai and Mr. Jaishankar, chairman of the Powai Fest Managing Committee. He is Managing Director of Ingram Micro India. Inclusive of four racquet sports namely Table Tennis, Tennis, Badminton and Squash and Football, the sports segment of the Powai fest will witness varied categories ranging from an interschool competition to one for corporates and another in the open category.
A few of the corporates who will battle it out include Deloitte, Avnet, Hindustan United Lever, TCS, Indian Oil, Oil Max and APL while the interschool competition will see tough contenders Hiranandani-Powai, Hiranandani- Thane, SM Shetty, Gopal Sharma, Gopal Sharma International, Oberoi International and Garodia during the next few days. With a fabulous footfall, the Powai Fest has not only received a great response but is sure to become a premier destination for Mumbaikars in this month for years to come.
The celebrations concluded with an exclusive dinner party and wine tasting event sponsored hosted by Mr. Surendra Hiranandani at the Hotel Meluha at Powai. The impressive selection of beverages from Grover Winesincluded a delectable Chene,La Reserve, Sante, Raya and many more.
The Powai Fest will continue over the weekend before concluding on Sunday, January 12th. Day two and three promise to escalate the bar of excitement even more- with a performance by the current toast of Bollywood, music sensation Shalmali Kholgade,on Saturday 11th January 2014 and a theatre workshop by renowned theatre personality Bharat Dabholkar on Sunday 12th January 2014. These events are supported by a host of others that include a performance by Ganesh, ramp walks, rock shows, street plays, foodathons, a pet show and so much more.
