Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh arrived separately and met at the do, but Arjun Kapoor and Alia Bhatt made an appearance together at the 59th Filmfare Awards nominations party last evening. Both couples got the shutterbugs flashing into action. Some stars stunned with their style statements, while others made fashion faux pas. Most, sadly, managed to shock even us with their not so flattering look for the party.
Alia Bhatt’s appearance with alleged lover and Two States co-star Arjun Kapoor was far more interesting than her red strapless Alexander McQueen gown. We must say that Ms Bhatt is taking comparisons made between her and Kareena Kapoor Khan a little too seriously, but could never make heads turn like Bebo would have. And Arjun Kapoor’s laidback attitude added no zing to his appearance – if Alia had not been by his side, we would have missed the Gunday actor on the red carpet.
Deepika Padukone chose to party in a printed Pankaj and Nidhi dress with a sexy back slit. While the Happy New Year actor looked stunning, she should have left the gold skull necklace behind. But with not many style rivals, Dippy managed to stand tall. Alleged beau Ranveer tried the geek look in Gandhi glasses and a bizarre patterned grey suit. When the duo posed together, they radiated chemistry, which took attention off their not so fashionable appearance.
Style diva Sonam Kapoor needs a makeover. Standing super tall next to her dapper Raanjhanaa co-star Dhanush, Sonam wasn’t anything like her usual picture perfect self in an Anushka Khanna royal blue gown. Neither the cut nor the colour worked for us – and that hairdo! Enough said…
Kalki Koechlin looked stunning in Gaurav Gupta – the Shaitan beauty definitely was one of the best turned out actors at the do, the saving grace. Her good friend Huma Qureshi tried hard to pull off a Shivan and Narresh fusion saree, but it fell kinda flat next to her buddy’s sweeping frock. They made a statement together though, putting a lot of the rumours about Huma disrupting Kalki’s marriage to Anurag Kashyap into the trash.
The Lunchbox actor Nimrat Kaur looked good in Anand Kabra, an improvement on her last appearance at the Star Screen Awards. Southern beauties – the new flavour in Bollywood – weren’t spectacular. We pick Tamannah Bhatia’s Dior dress over Shruti Haasan blingy Namrata Joshipura suit, though neither was hugely happening.
