HCG Pinkathon, India’s first ever multi city 10km run for women, today announced the completion of 10,000 registrations this year across four cities - Bangalore, New Delhi, Pune and Mumbai.

The stunning Bipasha Basu, a pink sister, has extended her support to the event for the second consecutive year. Registrations for the second edition of Mumbai’s ‘HCG Pinkathon - Run to Lead’, which is on Sunday, 15th of December 2013, are currently open.

The focus of the international running event is to encourage women's health and fitness and create much-neededawareness against breast cancer. In India, where more than one lakh women will be newly diagnosed with breast cancer by 2015, there is tremendous need to educate people about the causes and prevention of the much-neglected condition.According to the Population Based Cancer Registry Report 2010, in 2010, 90,659 women were diagnosed with breast cancer. In 2015, the number will rise to 106,214 and in 2020 an estimated 123,634 women will be afflicted by the condition.

Much needs to be done to spread awareness and HCG Pinkathon has been continuing to spread awareness on breast cancer and educate women about its causes and prevention through the run. It is also helping raise adequate funds to fight the ailment in India. Awareness for the twin causes of women's wellness and dealing with breast cancer are being further enhanced through integrated activities on social media and peripheral promotional ground events.

Dinesh Madhavan, Director, Healthcare Services, HCG, said, “Since its inception HCG, The Specialist in Cancer Care has been spearheading the fight against cancer. The HCG Pinkathon, an International Women's run is part of our ongoing effort to create awareness and educate woman on cancer. One in 22 women are effected by Breast Cancer in India, we hope an event like this would further reiterate the fact that greater awareness is required and the first step in the fight against cancer is to stay fit.”

Expressing her support to the second edition of Mumbai’s ‘HCG Pinkathon - Run to Lead’ Bipasha Basu said,“It gives me immense pride and joy to join 10,000 women in support of a noble endeavour like HCG Pinkathon for the second year. I believe each of us need to be conscious and watchful against a condition like breast cancer all the time. HCG Pinkathon is doing something praiseworthy when it comes to spreading awareness and educating women about causes and prevention through the run. I am looking forward to supporting the cause and congratulate Mumbaikars for doing the same.”

Commenting on 10,000 registrations in 2013, Milind Soman said, “Mumbai is the city where HCG Pinkathon first began and I am glad that 10,000 pink sisters have come forward to support the run this year. We thank each of them for the stand they are taking and are confident that the great city will support the cause with passion and enthusiasm. The need is tremendous and making a positive difference to the way women understand the condition in India gives us a sense of fulfilment and happiness.”
