CHENNAI EXPRESS Box Office Report 200 crore, Chennai Express, which has made uncountable records in a matter of 2 weeks both at the Domestic as well as the overseas front, has made yet another bombastic record. After setting a some new benchmarks for Bollywood, this Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone starrer has finally entered the 200 crore box office club, post its completion of 2 week’s run at the Domestic Box Office
Trade analyst and film critic Taran Adarsh tweeted, “#ChennaiExpress [Week 2]: Fri 6.50 cr, Sat 8.51 cr, Sun 10.22 cr, Mon 3.80 cr, Tue 7.06 cr. Grand total: Rs 192.85 cr nett. FANTABULOUS!”
He tweeted, “#ChennaiExpress crosses #YJHD… Becomes the BIGGEST grosser of 2013 thus far… THIRD BIGGEST grosser of all times in India”.
After breaking several records of Indian cinema, it appears Chennai Express by the end of 2nd week (Thursday), will be the second highest grosser ever at domestic box office surpassing “Ek Tha Tiger” (Rs 198.78 crore).
After knowing the collections of Wednesday, Taran tweeted, “#ChennaiExpress [Week 2]: Wed 4.51 cr. Grand total: Rs 197.36 cr nett. Note: India biz only… This Express is simply unstoppable!”
Meanwhile, Aamir Khan’s 3 Idiots continues to top the list at Rs 202.47 crore. The release of Ekta Kapoor’s Once Upon Ay Time in Mumbai Dobaara starring Akshay Kumar, Sonakshi Sinha and Imran Khan too has not affected the grand going of SRK’s Chennai Express. The movie has to collect only Rs 4.91 crore still to beat 3 Idiots record
Meanwhile, the Akshay Kumar, Sonakshi Sinha and Imran Khan starrer Once Upon Ay Time In Mumbai Dobaara! has fared way below expectations. For a film made on a budget of Rs. 85 crore, the collections so far have been below par. One reason for the poor response is doubtlessly the roaring run of Chennai Express.
Producer Ekta Kapoor who postponed OUATIMD from August 9 to 15 to make way forChennai Express is “very angry” at being denied a wide release to her film on August 15. Reportedly, the producers of Chennai Express had reached a deal with Balaji according to which they were to withdraw their film from a number of centres to allow a good release to OUATIMD on Aug 15. They reportedly didn’t do that.
This Friday sees the release of John Abraham’s Madras Cafe which too is mired in a controversy down south.
