Everyone knows by now that "Jolly LLB", directed by Subhash Kapoor, is a film about a small-time lawyer (Arshad Warsi) taking on an influential lawyer (Boman Irani). But what is not known is that the film’s script is heavily inspired by the infamous Sanjeev Nanda hit-and-run case. Back in 1999, Nanda, the grandson of former Naval Chief, S M Nanda, had allegedly lost control of his BMW and run over six people including three cops.

The high-profile case had attracted a lot of attention and hogged the headlines. In August last year, the case came into the limelight again when Nanda was granted bail.

When asked, Subhash Kapoor admitted that he had taken inspiration from the case and said: “We were inspired by many such cases, but yes, I gathered a lot of information about the Nanda case. Even though the film is inspired by this particular case, we have made our own interpretation and fictionalised it.”
