Blenders Pride Fashion Tour 2013 commenced in Chandigarh on September 28th and will conclude on November 24th in Mumbai, an exciting 60 day journey. From Chandigarh to Mumbai, 6 cities played host to the work of 10 masters of the craft, and their spectacular creations, at what is acknowledged as the benchmark for the Indian fashion calendar. Speaking on the tour, Raja Banerji, General Manager - Marketing, Pernod Ricard India said, “Fashion and trends are ever evolving and it’s a challenge to curate the best new work, but we thrive on it. The Blenders Pride Fashion Tour experience across six cities is differentiated and a permanent marker for style in the Indian calendar, and we will deliver on expectations again in its ninth edition in 2013”.
After a grand preview in Mumbai that took place on September 17, and 26 shows across 6 cities, the eagerly awaited fashion extravaganza presented its Grand Finale in Mumbai over the weekend, featuring Vikram Phadnis, Neeta Lulla & JJ Valaya on day 2 of BPFT.
Vivacity and joie de vivre come together in Vikram Phadnis’s collection, which is a celebration of the spirit, woven intricately into structured silhouettes. It is a diffusion line with no heavy bridals. Everything is simple which includes a few Indian pieces and some fusion wear. Blacks, maroons, golds, beiges, creams and ivories, all with a hint of embellishment, come alive on every garment. The collection is a reflection and an amalgamation of the colours of Blenders Pride. A lot has been mingled together to echo the brand that is Blenders Pride. Saris, anarkalis, sherwanis have a lot of fluidity in them. Vikram’s showstoppers for the evening were Malaika Arora Khan and Dino Morea.
Neeta Lulla’s collection can be described by three words - coquettish, enticing and enigmatic. The fashionistas of the 20s and 30s take center stage in the designer’s collection. Attitude and attire both call back from the past sheer sensuality and merge it pleasingly with the present. Neeta Lulla wanted to bring forth the flirtiest and sensuous aspect of our culture and that is the sari. The outfits in her collection have drawn their inspiration from the sari but have retained their playfulness from the yesteryears. Pastel shades, vintage hues, nudes, indigo blue, oyster pink, and greens bring out ones complexion and yet are muted enough to show ones personality. Uneven cuts, cylinder-shaped outlines and draping, vaguely and with a shimmering quality, creates a contour that tempts as much as when it is on exhibition as when it is enveloped. Kalki Koechlin dazzled as the showstopper for Neeta Lulla.
JJ Valaya weaves Indian sensibilities with rare and diverging Spanish influences in his collection. Bollywood Actor Arjun Kapoor walked the ramp as show stopper for JJ Valaya. It is a new season and with each new one comes a different influence, some whimsical and more distinct than the last. A medley of Spanish beauty, Indian epitome, royal cadences and life itself; all have found their way into JJ Valaya’s ‘Maharaja of Madrid’. The collection sees fashion doing what it does best; ‘make beautiful clothes. It also gets us front row seats to that ‘awe and awww’ moment, those little gasps of delight that only a JJ Valaya line brings forth.
“Beautiful has two forms,” elucidates JJ Valaya. “It can be mundanely beautiful or interestingly beautiful. Designs can be ordinarily pretty or slightly quirky. I am a lost royal. I’m sure I was one in my last birth. And thus this whole streak of monarchy never leaves my collections. My current line is a story of an Indian Maharaja who goes to Spain and, the little things he picks up from his journey is what comes together in this collection.”
